Triangular symbols for the four elements

The great scientist Newton, who was highly interested in alchemy, wrote in a letter to Henry Oldenburg in 1675:

«Because nature works constantly in circles, creates liquid from solid and solid from liquid; stable from volatile and volatile from stable; fine from coarse and coarse from fine; entities that ascend and become the forces in the upper regions of the earth, rivers and then the atmosphere, and in succession, other entities that descend in balance to this.»

The four elements

In the alchemical picture of the world, health is complete harmony of the powers of the elements – Fire, Air, Water, Earth – working in the body. These elements must be brought into balance if they are in disharmony, leading to the regeneration and harmonization of body, soul and spirit.

Fire
Fire is an element that is indispensable to life for humans. Fire provides humans with warmth, light and energy (motivating, activating when indolent or listless). It works on the head (strength of will), neck, eyes and blood. Without these energies and physical phenomena, life on this earth would not be possible.

Air
Air is arguably the most important medium for humans and all other life forms. It has invigorating, exhilarating and alleviating properties. It works on the intellect, neck, ears, chest and all respiratory organs.

Water
70 percent of the earth is covered with water. The human organism consists of 65% water. The water element works in a balancing, cleansing, solving, and flushing out manner. Due to these properties, it is good to use for agitation, irritation, blockages, etc. (of physical and psychological origins). It works on the sensitivity, feeling, lymph system, stomach and pelvis.

Earth
Earth is the complement to Air. Earth is solid, enduring and grounded. The earth element is dampening, stabilizing, provides structure (helps to resolve confusion) and integrating. It works on the taste, smell, consciousness, skeletal system, as well as on the entire physical body.
